When his Lord said to him, "Submit", he said "I have submitted [in Islam] to the Lord of the worlds." [2:131]

The first breath

Alhamdulillah, we are Muslim, and hopefully, we proud to be a Muslim. The first breath as a Muslim? When was it? I myself could not recall the first moment of becoming a Muslim, how about you? Surely the same answer, I guessed. Why? I have two answers. First, you might think that you are not naturally born as a Muslim, in other word, do you really believe the title “Muslim” had been given to you since the first day as independent baby? The second answer, your definition of Muslim and Islam might be different. For you, I guessed, the meaning of Muslim comes when you are really submit yourself to Allah, the moment you start to perform your prayer, fasting and many other obligations.

My brothers and sisters, for me, there is no point of trying to recall the first breath as a Muslim. On top of that, we have the responsibility to ensure the Islam that we are embracing today is solid enough, full with profound understanding and we really comprehend and appreciate all the value existed in Islam.

Today, we are Muslim but unfortunately, by most people, failed to convey and project the value and essence of Islam to others. Today, Muslim is merely a name and not more than that. Fortunately, we have our friends from the west world and some from the orient nations that still apply the value of Islam unconciously. At least, when kuffar ask us about the positive outcome of Islam, we could show to them the eminence of Japaneses- with their precise punctuality, Westerner- with their great research and discovery of knowledge. What a pathetic, for us to talk about their eminence of practising Islam’s value, meanwhile, we as the Muslim itself show nothing but amusing manner.

Islam is the way of life, and not just the way for you to ritualise your life. The revelation of Islam’s jurisprudence and tought was in commitment to govern and administrate our life as a whole. We, by some aspects, yet to achieve the real quality of being a Muslim.

Do we really submit?

Indeed, we are not. Do you think that your submission that brings you, that allows you, to enter Jannah? Shame on you, if you really did. It is our effort of submission- thats the grimly important issue which, most of us, put it aside. How many of us, tend to take a break, just because his/her work is not appreciated by others? We must understand deeply the correlation between effort and outcome, we might have the power to keep up our effort, but the outcome not necessarily as superb as the effort we made. On the contrary, we should not settle down of our effort just because we foresee that the incoming result is not like we expected.

We have our effort, and please submit the rest to Allah, for Allah, He knows, what best and what worst.
